Late 19th century, probably British made ship’s globe lantern or “onion lamp”. All metal construction, retaining an old red-painted surface, castellated top, with swing handle and survives with its original glass globe. The top and bottom of the lamp are connected by 4 soldered wire supports which double as guards and wrapped around an encircled center outer guard. This old maritime lamp measures 11 inches tall (13 inches overall with the handle) and is 9 1/2 inches in diameter The fount is brass with porcelain burner marked with the words "Trademark, Barton's," with a small figure in the center with a "B-B". Made by the "Barton Burner Co, Birmingham, England."
