An American classical style mahogany slant front desk from the late 19th to early 20th century. Features a lid with deep-carved acanthus leaves and a large scallop shell in the center. The desk is fitted with two curved front half drawers above three full length drawers, with fully-turned columns featuring C-scroll capitals over urns on each side and stand on carved lion's paw feet. The desk interior has a hinged center door that opens to two fitted drawers and flanked on each side with document cubbies, double drawers with cubbies and arched tops. The interior drawers and door all have a lightwood string inlays. The drawers retain the original brass bails and knobs plus locks and keeps, but are missing the keys. Dovetailed constructed case. The dark mahogany varnished finish also appears to be original, but is worn in various spots, but primarily on the writing surface from a century plus of use. The desk measures 36 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 43 inches tall to the top of the back and 30 inch writing height.
