An American tiger maple huntboard or small sideboard, New England, circa 1875. An antique Federal style huntboard constructed using solid tiger maple with white pine secondary wood. The rectangular top overhangs the case with a center section of one long drawer over a storage cabinet with two hinged doors and flanked on each side with a short drawer above a cabinet with hinged door. Square and tapered legs in the Hepplewhite fashion. Retains an old varnished finish and darkened amber-colored patina. The huntboard survives with a few shrinkage cracks and the Federal brass oval drawer pulls are contemporary replacements. The top of the huntboard has a small area along the center edge that was an irregularity in the wood and is slightly darker in color. Measures 50" wide X 14 ˝" depth and 39" tall. This is a perfectly functional antique board well suited for the traditional coastal home interior.
