This is a hand-made ship-in-a-bottle model of a fully rigged Hudson River sloop sailing on white-capped green clay seas mounted in a 1/2 gallon bottle. The sloop has a black hull with white and black sides. There is a single mast with cloth main sail, top sail and jib, and an American flag flies from the rigging and a red flag on the top of the main. The wood deck is planked with deck housing above, stacks of barrels and the tiller on the raised quarterdeck. A skiff is mounted on davits off the stern. The bottle is glued down on to a molded wood base with sisal rope surround. The neck of the bottle is wrapped in sisal line and corked closed. Measures approximately 13 inches long, 7 inches wide and 7 inches tall including wood base.
This Hudson River sloop was originally designed by Lauchlan McKay, circa 1810.
