REGIONAL NAUTICAL HISTORY AND LORE

The Schooner Virginia. Virginia is a re-creation of its namesake vessel, which was the last pure sailing vessel used by the Virginia Pilot Association.

The Naval Shipyard Museum & Lightship PORTSMOUTH Museum. Come explore over 250 years of fascinating history of America’s oldest and largest naval shipyard, which is located on the Portsmouth waterfront and just a two minute walk from our gallery.

Blackbeard's Crew is a living history group dedicated to the accurate representation of seafaring life in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, specifically 1690-1720.

The Old Coast Guard Station is an interactive museum housed in a 1903 Life Saving/Coast Guard Station in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The museum offers many exhibits and education programs, including an ongoing Shipwreck Identification Project.

The Mariners' Museum in Newport News, Virginia, is one of the largest international maritime museums in the world. The museum is dedicated to "illuminating mankind's experience with the sea and the events that shaped the course and progress of civilization."


MARITIME ENVIRONMENT

The Elizabeth River Project, in Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia, works with partners to voluntarily prevent future pollution, reduce existing pollution and create wildlife habitat.

We are located in Olde Towne Portsmouth on the riverside of the historic Seaboard Railroad Building next to the High Street Basin and ferry landing.
Our front doors face the Elizabeth river and are just a few steps away from the historic Hog Island Lighthouse Fresnel lens!
