A nice pair of Civil War era binoculars made of brass & cloth wrapped Marine/Field Binoculars, signed Chevalier, Paris. Measures approx 9 1/2" extended, and black enameled eye pieces embossed "CHEVALIER" and "PARIS". The eye tubes are marked "FIELD EXTRA POWERFUL" and "MARINE EXTRA POWERFUL". The binocular body is black enamel on brass with leather style cloth wraps and gutta percha adjusting knob. Sliding eye shades over main objective lens. Overall, the binoculars survive in good condition, with bright clear image and only minor expected wear to original leather and body with some paint worn on brass as pictured, a small crack in the adjustment knob and a few small dents on the eye pieces. No case.
