Product Description

•••••

A wonderful old 19th century "birdcage" anchor light with glass Fresnel lens. This lantern survives in remarkably good shape with only a few very minor chips on the light-purple glass lens. The lantern itself is in sound structural condition and retains a beautiful old verdigris finish.

The original font and burner are long gone, but the lantern could easily be electrified for both interior and exterior home use. Would also make a wonderful hanging light for your foyer or above your porch and as a post light in front of your coastal home! Measures 14 1/2 inches tall to the top of ring. 6 inch diameter.

*This style cage light was used during the mid 19th century for use on sailing vessels. The cage wires over the top of the lantern chimney were designed to keep sail canvas and lines away the hot chimney and starting a fire, a common occurrence on sailing ships of that era.
