Hand-carved wood sperm whale by New England artist John Shaw, created in a traditional New England folk art style. Hand painted in a fashion allowing the grain of the wood to show for a rustic antique appearance. The whale is carved from 2" thick native white pine and measures 36" long x 8.75" wide from the base of the whale to the tip of the tail. The back has sawtooth hangers and is signed and branded with the name of the artist and location of creation (Plymouth, Mass). Painted with acrylic paint and sealed both front and back with spar varnish urethane for durability.
