Early 1900's ship's steering station made by an unidentified maker (no visible makers mark or tags). The heavy all bronze 8 spoke wheel measures 45 1/2 inches in diameter and turns smoothly on it's axle. The handles on the wheel were at some point in its maritime career cut off and removed. We can only surmise that a smooth wheel was preferred over spokes, but this is speculative since there is no provenance to state its history and the previous owner had acquired it 40 plus years ago in "as is" condition. The pedestal is cast out of bronze metal and retains traces of an old grey paint. The entire station stands 58 3/4 inches tall overall. The pedestal itself measures 39 1/2 inches tall. Overall a great ship's relic retaining a wonderful rich dark brown bronze patina.
