A fine early 20th century small boxed and gimbaled compass made by Wilcox & Crittenden of Middletown, Connecticut. Features a two inch compass face and the compass survives in good working order. The mahogany box is constructed with machine dovetailed corners and retains a pleasing, dark brown patina and comes with it's original lid. Black painted compass housing and gimbal ring. A pair of brass swing clasps holds the lid shut when not in use. Box measures 4 7/8" X 4 7/8" X 3 1/2" high. A clean and working example for the nautical collector.
