This is a hand-crocheted cotton line 48 star US flag probably made soon after Arizona was admitted to the Union in 1912. The flag is in excellent condition with no rips, tears or stains. Color is vibrant. It's a wonderful example of Americana folk art from the flag itself to the embellished broom handle flag pole, and crocheted cord and tassel. The flag measures approximately 23" x 39" and 28 1/2" X 50" overall including the wooden pole and crocheted hanger. This flag could be lightly stretched and framed.
In 1912, two stars were added, representing Arizona and New Mexico, bringing the total number of stars to 48, arranged in 6 rows of 8 stars each. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies. This flag flew from 4 July, 1912, to 3 July, 1949.
