IMPERIAL GERMAN NCO SWORD 28 1/4 broad fullered curved blade marked P. KNECHT/SOLINGEN (the stamp for Peter Knecht 1825-1850) at the forte. Brass hilt with p-form guard and integral pommel and back strap. Ribbed grip made without wire. Hilt excellent with dark patina. Blade survives with a reasonably clean surface with a few nicks on the edge. From the Arthur A. Rebman maritime collection.

Peter Knecht was one of a long line of the Knecht family who made swords in Germany from circa 1620-1978. The circa 1825-1850 marking was usually "Peter Knecht" while the "P. Knecht" mark was used around 1850 after the father (also named Peter) died. See Richard Bezdek, "German Swords and Sword Makers" for further info on the Knecht family.
