Rare surviving boxed Wigzell's Atmospheric sea-sounding instrument. The original wooden box with houses the instruction sheets that is pasted to the inside of the box lid. The box has an enamel plaque on the top of the lid stating: 'WIGZELL'S / PATENT / (ATMOSPHERIC TYPE) / SEA-SOUNDING / INSTRUMENT'. The box contains: one wooden fathom scale, marked "FATHOMS AND WIGZELL'S PATENT" and the copper instrument engraved on the side "WIZGELL'S IMPROVED PATENT'. The copper tube houses the interior transparent gauge tube and is attached with a rope sling. An oval plate is attached to on end of the sling stating; "IMPORTANT, SHACKLE THIS END OF THE SLING WIRE". Very interesting and rare surviving example of a atmospheric type sea sounding instrument for the scientific instrument collector! Date made ca.1900.
