This American solid walnut dining table is from the Renaissance Revival Victorian period. The round top (closed) has a molded edge. Notice the highly figured burled walnut trim along the skirt and pedestal legs. The table has 5 original leaves, each measuring 15.25” wide. When all the leaves are in place, the 47 inches round top expands to 117 inches (almost 10 feet). The base is made of 2 separate pieces. As the top expands, the base separates to provide the necessary support. The table is extremely sturdy with and without leaves. Notice the burled walnut trim and panels on the four legs and the boldly carved rosettes. Circa 1880.
CONDITION: The table finish is in excellent condition having a rich, warm light walnut color, but does have some surface scratches from over 12 decades of use. A few spots on the legs of veneer loss and two of the round medallions are missing, but truly not noticable and can easily be replaced.
