Mid-20th century ship in a bottle diorama depicting a brigantine passing a foreign port and flying the American flag. The diorama background is unique, being a partial print of a seaport and painted all around the seaport scene and a clay jetty with flag pole and light. An electrical wire runs from the interior bulb through the mouth and paper cork; once able to be lighted! The ship is carved from a single piece of wood with a copper hull. Nicely detailed brigantine under sail with paper sails on paper and clay seas- beautifully rigged, even down to the tiny blocks.

This fine example of sailor folk art is presented in a clear glass bottle, stamped on bottom "Duraglas." this company was in production in the 1940-1950's. It is capped off with the original closure made of wrapped paper. The bottle is 9 1/4 inches long by 3 inches in diameter. Displayed on a simple mahogany stand. Survives in good original condition!
