Antique hooked rug depicting a whaling scene of the New Bedford ship 'Sally Ann', New Bedford, 1843.  "Sally ann" is woven on the hull of the ship.  NEW BEDFORD is inscribed on the upper left hand corner and dated 1843 on the upper right. The SALLY ANN under sail, flying the American flag, with a breaching whale in the foreground. The rug meaures 31 x 40 inches.

HISTORY: The ship "Sally Ann" was built in Braintree, MA. (312 tons). Her first voyage was in 1826. She recorded 16 voyages, all out of New Bedford and was lost in the Pacific in 1853. American Master, Jabez S. Hathaway.
