FAQs

Q. Do you give discounts?

A. The price shown is our best price available and is not negotiable. We do not pad our pricing to accommodate inevitable discounts nor do we use a "Buyer's Premium." We cannot offer additional "discounts" to the trade or accept lower offers.

Discounted or items "On Sale" will be marked as such and offered at the adjusted price, or you will find it in our CLEARANCE department. All prices are in U.S. dollars.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?

A. Payment may be made in the form of a personal check, money order, Paypal, or Visa, Mastercard, or Discover credit card through our website's secure ordering system. Should you prefer to pay by check or provide your credit card via phone, please contact us during business hours at (207)219-0897. Check and money orders may be made out to Skipjack Nautical Wares and mailed to 1172 State Route 32, Round Pond, ME 04564. Available items will be placed on hold for 7 working days pending receipt of PAYMENT IN FULL. If payment is not received within 7 days, then the item will be returned to stock and made available again to interested buyers. All items are sold on a first come first served basis. Items marked are actually SOLD and are no longer available. Certain works of art by our artists may be custom reproduced for you as close to the original as possible or recreated to your specifications. Pricing may vary depending on the magnitude of the customization.

Q. Do you have a printed catalog?

A. Sorry, we do not have a printed catalog. By only maintaining a web site we can add items and product information daily when they arrive, and keep prices and other information up to date. If you have a slow internet connection or little time for browsing, click the search button at the top of each page. From there you can find things quickly. You can call us at (207) 219-0897 EST during showroom hours or email us at skipjacknauticalwares@gmail.com if you need help.

Q. Could you tell me all about my antique nautical item?

A. We are always willing to share our knowledge of maritime history and artifacts with others, at no cost. But as a professional appraiser, we cannot provide casual estimates of value. As experts in our field, we provide professional, written replacement cost appraisals for insurance or donation and are billed on an hourly basis (not a percentage of value).

Q. Would you be interested in buying my nautical item?

A.Well, maybe! You are welcome to email us with images, a description, and your asking price. We will not consider any offers that do not include an asking price. As both a buyer and an appraiser of maritime antiques, marine art and other period items, we will not buy an item that we have appraised, nor will we offer casual values for the purpose of acquisition. Anyone using an appraiser who has an interest or a contemplated future interest in the property appraised, might well suspect that the report was biased and self-serving and, therefore, that the findings were invalid. Such suspicion tends to break down trust and confidence in the results of appraisal work, generally. Therefore, it is unethical and unprofessional for an appraiser to accept an assignment to appraise a property in which he has an interest or a contemplated future interest. However, if a prospective client, after full disclosure by the appraiser of his present or contemplated future interest in the subject property, still desires to have the appraiser do the work, the latter may properly accept the engagement provided he discloses the nature and extent of his interest.

Q. Then do you take items on consignment?

A. Skipjack Nautical Wares & Marine Gallery does offer a consignment arrangement to assist in the future marketing of appraised item or items. Such items are offered for sale through our Maine gallery and our web store, and compensation is based on a percentage basis. This agreement is set forth after the appraisal is completed.
