The maritime collection contains approximately 40 items, collected and owned by Francis J. Trainor. The items include authentic ship lanterns and marine lighting, Chelsea, Seth Thomas and Hamilton clocks and chronometers, marine compasses, bells, maritime instruments, nautical furnishings and decor.

BIOGRAPHY: In early 1942, Francis J. Trainor enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and earned his ensign's commission after graduation. During WWII, he served as supply officer aboard the destroyer 'USS ISHERWOOD, DD-520'. The USS ISHERWOOD, a Fletcher class destroyer, was commissioned in April 1943 at the New York Navy Yard. A veteran of 14 island invasions as well as the invasion of Okinawa, theUSS ISHERWOOD was struck by a kamikaze plane and heavily damaged, suffering loss of many of the ship's crew. Francis also served on active duty during the Korean War and continued service in the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant Commander. Francis began his civilian career with the Department of the Navy, where he was instrumental in establishing purchasing offices in support of fleet operations around the world. He was the principal author of the Navy's Procurement Manual, which became known as the bible of Navy field purchasing.
