A 19th century oak British Royal Navy battle rattle, used to sound general quarters. Octagonal shaped handle is attached with a clapper wheel to create create the clacking sound. A small piece of clapper is lost from use, but it does not alter it's use and still presents a loud, distinguishing sound. Retains the original varnished wood finish. Measures 11 1/2 inches in length X 9 inches wide (including handle.)
