Oil on board measuring 10" X 12"

A foggy night in 1862; the mist breaks to suddenly reveal a Civil War blockade runner slicing close by at top speed. The patrolling northern steamer gets off a couple shots, but she's not lekely to catch the swift southerner. Early on, only about one in ten of these blockade runners were apprehended.

By war's end, Federal vessels had captured many of them and sealed off all the southern ports from desperately needed supplies. with the war and drama of the blockade over, the runners were scrapped or assigned to tother careers, some of them lasting well into kthe twentieth century.
