An exceptional and rare pair of post-WWII 20 x 120 United States Navy Bridge Binoculars manufactured in the 1960's by the Kollmorgen Optical Co., of Northampton, Massachusetts. Features 1 1/4 inch eyepieces that are internal focusing with individual external focusing knobs that are geared to the internal lenses. The huge 120mm objective lenses are coated. Features a super-wide 3.5 degree field of view that produces a 70 degree AFOV (apparent field of view). Has built-in thick rubber covers. There are two levers underneath the eyepiece housings: the right one controls the IPD (interpupilary distance). The left one operates the built-in polarizing filters. Eye relief is 20mm retain their original removable rubber eye cups. An adjustable and removable rubber fore-head rest is positioned above the eyepieces to protect the viewer when the ship was underway. Totally sealed from the elements and is waterproof & fog proof. The stand features an up/down height adjustment and a 0 to 360 degree positioning plate with pointer and knob which tightens and locks the binoculars into a given position. The binoculars have a built-in set of brass handles with rubber grips for easy movement and view adjustment. These binoculars were originally mounted on a railing on top of a ship's bridge, and now rest on a custom-made steel stand on four pivoting wheels for easy relocation, and be used free standing. The binoculars retain the original navy grey painted finish, but the adjustable brass mount is polished and lacquered. The original manufacturers label was removed at some point in the past, and the plate pictured below is from an identical pair that we discovered in research and had recently sold on the worldwide market. The optics on this set produces a clear, highly magnified image of the highest quality imaginable. A "must have" for any beach and coastal homeowner!
