Rare, early to mid 19th Century pewter Ship Captain's inkwell. Appears to retain the original removable enamel ink pot. The rimmed top with 6 pen holders surrounding the well. 7 5/8 inch wide diameter base. Expected wear for its age. Unmarked, but most likely American or British heritage. Comes with a new feather writing pen and bottle of ink.
This inkwell was designed for use on sailing vessels of the day. They were set short and wide so as not to tip over while at sea.
