Cast brass Oldham Naval lantern, Admiralty Pattern 900-4090. This lantern type was used by the Royal Navy as an emergency engine room inspection lamp. It is a lighthouse design with a glass Fresnel lens light cover.
This one was electrified using an electric lamp cord with on/off switch. Heavy cast brass construction with a dent and a few surface scratches from years of actual Navy use. Stands 10 ½ inches tall including the top ring and 3 ¾ inches in diameter at bottom. In good working order and beautiful polished brass finish.
Originally powered with 220 volt direct current. The beveled brass bottom plate unscrews so a dry cell could have been placed inside. Also, a brass fitting at the bottom unscrews to be used for direct power (powered externally).
