A rare example of an early 20th-century, British-made, diminutive size Engine Order Double Faced brass Ship’s Telegraph by the famous makers A. Robinson & Co. Ltd., of Liverpool, Glasgow.
The 8-inch brass telegraph houses 6 1/2-inch black double faces, dual command levers on a teak lighthouse-shaped pedestal, standing on a base with curved sides and four corner mounting holes for deck mounting. The black glass telegraph face with white lettering is divided on both sides and into 9 sections, which are: AHEAD FULL – HALF – SLOW – STOP & ASTERN (LOW – HALF – FULL. The faces also have the maker’s details: A. ROBINSON & Co. Ltd. - PATENTEES & MANUFACTURERS – LIVERPOOL & GLASGOW. There is a rectangular brass plaque on the upper side of the wood pedestal, with the engraved numbers: 0166-74-2. Below is a hinged door that opens to the pedestal interior. The interior bell will ring with each command, but it is not consistent. E.O.T. stands 35 inches tall, exclusive of side handles.
