NEW BREEZE by New Zealand artist JIM BOLLAND.
Nathaniel Herreshoff designed the huge 1903 Americas Cup defender RELIANCE that defeated the British challenger SHAMROCK III 3-nil.
This portrait of the giant yacht; the largest ever to compete in the Cup; portrays a critical moment toward the closing stages of the second race when fickle winds had allowed SHAMROCK to close within the defenders handicap. When the wind settled in to a steady direction and increased in pressure; spinnakers were hoisted and RELIANCE powered away to victory.
Giclee print on canvas; signed lr by the artist; artist proof #10. Custom pine frame measuring 31 1/2 X 39 inches overall.
