A hard to find half hull model demonstrating the plank-on-frame construction of a ship of war, exposing the ships ribs. The model is built just as the full-size wooden ship would have been built showing the many details of its construction. The planks are applied over the frame using small nails to attach, forming the external covering. Unfortunately, the ship’s history is gone and the previous owners did not have knowledge of the model’s provenance, so we do not know what ship this is modeled after or knowledge of the model builder.
A detailed view of the starboard side of a late 18th to early 19th century 24-gun American sloop-of-war or British frigate.
Dimensions: Length: 40 ½ inches; Depth: 5 inches; Height: 9 ½ inches.
CONDITION: The stern Captain’s cabin is missing. Besides that, the model is intact. Retains a fine old overall aged patina throughout.
