Voice pipes served to transmit reports from lookout positions aloft to the deck and from the bridge to the steering position and engine room. tube head was installed on the flying bridge of most US Navy ships during WWII. It directed voice commands to the Combat Information Center, Radio Room, Captain's Cabin and other places.
