This is an early 20th century, hand-crocheted cotton line 48 star US flag. The crocheted flag survives in good condition with no rips, tears or stains. Flag colors are vibrant.
It's a wonderful example of Americana handcrfted folk art from the flag itself to the embellished broom handle flag pole that it crocheted to. The flag measures approximately 23" x 39".
*In 1912, two stars were added, representing Arizona and New Mexico, bringing the total number of stars to 48, arranged in 6 rows of 8 stars each.
There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies. This flag flew from 4 July, 1912, to 3 July, 1949.
