Product Description

In the summer of 1814 with most of the U.S. Navy's ships blockaded in port and an overwhelming enemy force threatening Washington & Baltimore, a gunboat fleet set out to defend the nation. The Chesapeake flotilla commanded by Joshua Barney, descended the Patuxent River early on June 1st when lookout boats reported British vessels nearby. At about 6:00 AM, the flagship U.S.S. Scorpion leads two dozen lateen-rigged gunboats and schooners into what became the Battle of Cedar Point.

This painting was recently shown in the Spring 2015 issue of Sea History Magazine in support of the National Maritime Historical Society and the Naval Historical Foundation, and was also exhibited with 5 other nationally renowned marine artists’ works at the N.M.H.S. Awards Dinner held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.
