A high-quality, early 19th-century single-draw mahogany and brass, sea captain’s hand-held telescope, probably English-made, unsigned. Measures 34 1/2 inches fully extended, 19 1/2 inches when closed, and has a 1 1/2 inch diameter objective lens. The eye-tube retains its original dust slide.
CONDITION: This 200-plus-year-old telescope survives in good working order, with expected wear from a used antique maritime instrument. The brass single draw tube has a few tiny surface dents and the mahogany main tube is in fine, undamaged condition, retaining a beautiful saddle-brown mahogany finish. The telescope does function and adjusts
to a clear image.
