Untitled, oil on canvas. Signed lower left, Henry Parker and dated 1981. Coastal scene of a wooden schooner sailing past buoy #8. Storm sails blow against grey skies and in turbulent waters. Canvas measures: 19 ½  X  29 ½ inches. Driftwood frame measures 22 1/4 X 32 1/4 inches.

Henry Parker was born in 1938, Norristown, PA. He later moved to Cape May, NJ, where he spent his early years. He then moved to England and studied art near London. In 1958, Parker won an art scholarship to study at the University of Miami’s Lowe Gallery. The Miami News said of Mr. Parker: “Henry Parker’s paintings… do not glamorize the sea. The artist portrays the sea in some of its most forbidding moods as well as at the most translucently delightful times, when the early sun shines through the mist and strikes the waves, crating an unearthly transparency.” Nellie Bower, Miami News Art Critic.
