Slant-Front Binnacle Boxed Compass by Wilcox Crittenden

Slant-front boat binnacle compass by Wilcox Crittenden, Middletown, Connecticut. The Mahogany hinged slant-front case with a 2 3/4in. glass-covered viewing portal, houses a brass wet card compass in a gimbal with cardinal points in block lettering, fleur-de-lis at North with WC insignia. The top is held closed with a brass hook-and-eye closure. The compass is fitted into a removable ship-lapped box that fits tightly inside the binnacle. The binnacle has a portal cut into the right side that measures 1 1/2 inches in diameter. An exterior light would have been used for interior compass lighting. We have added an interior candleabra bulb size light to the top, back side, with the electric cord passing through the portal. The electric cord is fitted with an ON/OFF switch for easy use. Retains the original, heavily oxidized varnish finish.
