Product Description

•••••

Authentic, completely original WWII Navy bell that was used aboard either a US Navy motor launch or shipyard workboat. According to the previous owner, the bell was mounted above the boat rudder on to the tiller. The mounting bracket is cast on a slight angle designed to rest on the angled section aft on the tiller and was used to ring signals to the engine operator. The shoe still has the spring catch on the front. The foundry numbers located on the bottom of the bracket matches the casting numbers and was cast at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

The flared mouth measures 9 ½ inches in diameter and the bell stands 18 inches tall from the top of the wooden base to the top of the bolt. Mounted on a mahogany base measuring 10 ½ X 12 X 2 inches thick. The bell and bracket retains an old verdigris patina. Comes with a new 4 inch bell rope. The complete ensemble weighs 38 1/2 pounds.
