Handcrafted, nautical three-masted sailing ship (barque) weathervane, with wire-work rigging and flying an American 13-star Betsy Ross flag atop of the middle mast. Metal seagulls are attached by wire and flying around the vessel. Painted green wood hull with black and white painted above waterline, and white-painted sheet iron sails. We believe that this weathervane was produced sometime in the 1950’s and once adorned the top of a beachfront home. It was later removed and displayed until recent time as a piece of authentic American folk art. Measures 46” long X 34 inches tall and is displayed on a wooden stand measuring 12” X 22 ½”. The top of the stand is covered with an old varnish-stained navigational chart.
Condition: This wonderful old maritime weather-vane survives in a weathered, windblown condition with expected wear and tear, imperfections from aging and paint loss on the ship’s hull and sails. The wire-work rigging has been replaced and we believe that the metal seagulls were added after used as a weathervane.
